Eight alumni of the University of Virginia School of Law were among Law360’s Rising Stars for 2023, a list of attorneys under age 40 whose accomplishments as lawyers “transcend their age.”

Honorees were selected based on their career accomplishments in their respective disciplines.

Michael Chao ’14 of Simpson Thacher was named a top private equity practitioner for his role in the $30 billion acquisition of health care supplier Medline.

Timothy Cook ’11 of WilmerHale was named a top life sciences law practitioner for his role supporting Gilead Sciences in a patent lawsuit.

Megan Granger ’11 of Weil Gotshal was named a top competition attorney for her role in guiding Microsoft through the Activision merger.

Andrew Nightingale ’09 of Proskauer was named a top sports and betting practitioner for his role advising leagues on broadening franchise ownership.

Kristen Poole ’10 of Gibson Dunn was named a top private equity practitioner for her role in a deal that carried an enterprise value of $16 billion.

Jonathan Potts ’11 of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner was named a top sports and betting practitioner for his role representing 30 NHL teams in multidistrict litigation.

Nathan Wacker ’10 of Skadden was named a top tax law practitioner for his role in high-stakes corporate tax disputes.
