Team Players: Section H Takes Home Inaugural Goluboff Cup
Students in Section H at the University of Virginia School of Law were awarded the inaugural Goluboff Cup last week.
The Student Bar Association honor recognizes charitable giving, pro bono service and student-organization leadership, in addition to participation in the North Ground Softball League's regular-season play. First-year and LL.M. students were eligible to compete.
Section H posted big numbers in all categories, according to SBA President Steven Glendon, a second-year law student
"For pro bono hours, they were in first place by a wide margin," Glendon said.
The cup was the brainchild of Glendon's predecessor, A.J. Collins.
"I came up with the idea as a way to better bond 1L sections together and encourage them to participate in the full spectrum of activities that make UVA Law unique," said Collins, a member of the Class of 2017.
Dean Risa Goluboff, for whom the cup is named, said the honor reminds students of the value of being well-rounded and community-oriented.
"I love the idea of both the bonding within sections and the friendly competition between them extending beyond softball to so many other aspects of Law School life," Goluboff said. "The genius of the Goluboff Cup — for which A.J. gets all the credit — is that it strengthens our internal Law School community by enhancing our service to the larger community."
