Patrick Oglesby is a North Carolina lawyer and CEO of the Center for New Revenue, a tax policy nonprofit. He has written and spoken widely on cannabis revenue policy, but has not worked for cannabis sellers.

Oglesby received his law degree with high honors and an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He clerked for Judge John Minor Wisdom on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and practiced law with Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C. He was a tax lawyer for the U.S. Joint Congressional Committee on Taxation, the chief tax counsel for the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, and an adjunct faculty member at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, business and law schools. He served as co-chair of the Regulatory and Tax Structure Working Group of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s California Blue Ribbon Commission on Marijuana Legalization, and is a co-author of cannabis reports commissioned by the states of Vermont and Washington.
