Course Description

This course will be a continuation of Proseminar I and expand on several significant national security issues, providing students with a strong foundation in national security law and offering them the ability to think more broadly about the field. The course will afford students with an opportunity to develop an appreciation of the complexities of national security issues facing both government and the private sector and sharpen their analytical skills in addressing national security issues more generally. Guest lecturers from across the national security apparatus will frequently address the class.

Written Work Product

Students will be expected to discuss lectures and reading materials in a small group seminar session. Evaluations will be based on weekly written responses to the reading materials, class participation, and either an end of course 5-10 minute oral presentation and in-class debate.

Course Notes: The instructors for this course are LTC MAURER and CDR ZIMMERMAN. This course meets at the JAG School during its 4th Quarter, MARCH 18 – MAY 3, 2024 (NOTE: the course ends during the Law School’s final exam period). Due to weather, holidays, military requirements, etc., individual class sessions at the JAG School are subject to rescheduling on occasion. The JAG School attempts to reschedule make-ups at the same day/time slot, but there may be times when a meeting session date/time will not occur in the same day/time slot. All absences must be approved by the instructor. ENROLLMENT: Students seeking to enroll in this course must complete and timely submit a request e-form to SRO. SRO will begin collecting enrollment applications at an announced time in the fall term, and the JAG School has final approval for any enrollment requests. Students wishing to enroll in this class will be notified if they have received a seat in the class on around Feb. 15.
