This course provides an introduction to law & economics. The course will provide background in microeconomics, decision theory and game theory, with an emphasis on practical applications. We will then use these tools to illuminate familiar areas of law, including property, torts, contracts, civil procedure, and criminal law. Students will learn how to construct economic models, analyze the incentive effects of legal rules and institutions, and evaluate the implications of different laws for social welfare. No previous knowledge of economics is required. Note: this course will incorporate topics that were previously covered in Quantitative Methods (LAW 7075). Any student who has previously taken Quantitative Methods should consult with the professor before enrolling in this course.
