Course Description

The central theme of the course is the Supreme Court's determination of the scope of First Amendment expressive freedoms throughout the 20th century and into the 21st. Topics include prior restraint, seditious speech, defamation, campaign finance regulation, "low value" speech, hate speech, obscenity, child pornography, and commercial advertising.
