Congress, Oversight, and the Separation of Powers (SC)

This course covers Congress’s powers with a special concentration on oversight and investigation. It brings together legal, academic, and political experts to dissect how Congress now conducts oversight. The course will use the House Select Committee’s investigation of the January 6 Attack as a lens through which to study modern exercises of congressional power. Students will engage with a variety of guests with direct experience in that investigation. Topics will include, among others, subpoena powers, privileges, the role of media in investigation, and alternatives to congressional participation.
