'Regulating the Sharing Economy' Focus of Symposium

Moonlighting CEO Jeff Tennery To Give Keynote
Regulating the Sharing Economy
April 2, 2018

Legal challenges facing the "sharing economy" are the subject of a symposium to be held at the University of Virginia School of Law on April 6 in Caplin Pavilion.

Sponsored by the Virginia Law & Business Review and the John W. Glynn, Jr. Law & Business Program, "Regulating the Sharing Economy" will feature representatives from businesses connected to companies organized around online transactions, such as Lyft and Moonlighting. Scholars, government officials and private practitioners who are already dealing with innovative regulatory issues caused by the rise of companies like Uber and Airbnb will also weigh in.

The event will "evaluate the applicability of current legal standards to a changing economy, and spark discussion about what to expect in the future," said second-year student Alex Downie, executive editor and special projects editor of the Virginia Law & Business Review.

Jeff Tennery, founder and CEO of Moonlighting, will deliver the lunch address at 11:45 a.m.
