Stanley Henderson, a member of the faculty from 1970 to 2004, taught contracts, labor law, and labor arbitration. He received the University of Virginia Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award in 1983 and the University of Colorado Law School Alumni Award for Distinguished Achievement in Education in 1986. Between 1988 and 1990, he held the first Hunton & Williams Professorship and served as an academic visitor to that law firm. During 1992-93, he was the D & L Straus Distinguished Visiting Professor at Pepperdine Law School. Henderson held the first Thomas F. Bergin Teaching Professorship from 1993-96. In 1994 he received the First Year Class Law Faculty Teaching Award.

Following graduation from law school, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif, Henderson clerked for Judge Hatfield Chilson of the U.S. District Court in Denver. He practiced law in Colorado before joining the law faculty at the University of Wyoming in 1964. He also has been a visiting professor at Harvard, Indiana, and Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.

Henderson has served as chair of the section on Contract Law of the Association of American Law Schools and as an arbitrator on the National Labor and National Commercial Panels of the American Arbitration Association and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the American Law Institute. Henderson has written articles for the Yale, Duke, Pennsylvania, and Virginia law reviews.
