W. Thomas McGough, Jr. co-teaches the January Term course Health Care Marketplace: Competition, Regulation and Reform.

McGough is the chief legal officer of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a former partner at Reed Smith. After earning his bachelor's degree at Princeton, McGough studied law at the University of Virginia, where he was notes editor for the Virginia Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. After graduating he clerked for Judge Collins J. Seitz of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit (1978-79) and Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist of the U.S. Supreme Court (1979-80). He has served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Western District of Pennsylvania (1980-82) and associate counsel for the Senate Select Committee on Secret Military Assistance to Iran and the Nicaraguan Opposition (1987).
