Mark Herring is a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, where he co-leads the firm’s nationwide state attorneys general practice.

Prior to joining Akin, Mark served as Virginia’s 47th attorney general. During his eight years as the state’s chief legal officer, Mark was at the forefront of high-profile cases and public policy issues confronting Virginians and the nation, including securing the right of same-sex couples to marry, successfully defending the Affordable Care Act, winning the nation’s first preliminary injunction blocking a travel ban on Muslims, and successfully defending Virginia’s removal of the statue of Robert E. Lee from Monument Avenue in Richmond.

Herring also previously served as a member of the Virginia Senate and a member of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.
