Course Description

Seminars in Ethical Values are designed to enhance students' understanding of ethical issues and address the broader ethical and moral responsibilities of the lawyer as citizen and leader. The seminars are graded on a pass/fail basis; students earn one credit in the spring semester upon successful completion of the seminar. This course will explore ethical dilemmas facing business decisions makers at both the executive and individual-contributor level. The primary focus will be on non-fictional depictions of ethical issues in various contexts including executives’ responsibilities to investors, fiduciaries’ responsibilities to clients, and corporate social responsibility. Discussion will focus on the role of lawyers in mitigating or exacerbating these conflicts and the role of private and public law in addressing ethical problems.
