Course Description

This seminar examines the role of markets in promoting (or inhibiting) the full participation of women in society. Topics covered include freedom of contract; property rights; labor market access and occupational licensing; sales of ova and embryos; surrogacy services; sex work; societal expectations of generosity and self-interest; women's lives under socialism and communism; and women as entrepreneurs and managers.

Written Work Product

Students will have the option of writing a substantial research paper via EXPO by noon on May 9, 2024 (day before the last day of the exam period) OR three short papers (submitted directly to instructor, not EXPO). Students seeking to satisfy the upper-level writing requirement must submit a timely Writing Requirement Intent Form to the Student Records Office by Feb. 26th - retroactive exceptions will not be granted.
