Join Professors Richard Re and Joy Milligan for a discussion on the law teaching market. They will discuss what happens during the academic job market, when it takes place and what participants need to succeed. This event is sponsored by the Academic Placement Committe. Join Student Affairs for an interactive session with Dr. Kate Gibson and Karen Painter, LPC, focusing on tips for battling burnout, promoting mental health and wellbeing, and gearing up for a strong finish to the spring semester. The session will be on Tuesday, 4/23, at 4pm, in WB 119. The first 15 students who sign up will receive a free smoothie from Juice Laundry. Snacks will be provided.

The UVA Law Office of Financial Aid is sponsoring a series on “Real-World Finances” to assist students in preparing for life after Law School. Morgan Cutright from AccessLex will discuss managing credit and debt, and the impacts of both on character and fitness for the bar. Light refreshments will be provided.

Professor Richard Re will give some advice and words of wisdom to the graduating class. He will be preceded by Warren Gorrell Jr. ’79, chair of the Law School Foundation Board of Trustees.

Join classmates in Charlottesville for Law Alumni Weekend. Hotel blocks will be released in September, and registration will open in early 2024.

The UVA Law School Foundation and Alumni Association invite the Class of 2024 and their guests to a pre-graduation reception. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and assorted beverages. Attire is casual. A class photograph is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. on the steps of Clay Hall, weather permitting. No RSVP required.

The Oxford-Virginia Legal Dialogs series continues with a presentation of “Economic Inequality in Preindustrial Times: Europe and Beyond,” 59 Journal of Economic Literature 3 (March 2021) by Guido Alfani, a professor of economic history at Bocconi University, with comments by Ted Seto, a Loyola Law School professor focused on tax. 

In an environment of increasing academic specialization, Oxford-Virginia Legal Dialogs seeks to build bridges across academic disciplines by introducing a new kind of workshop. For each session, a tax scholar will select a non-tax, but law-related, work that is prominent in its own field and explain how the work is relevant to the study of taxation. The author of the work will then respond before we open the session to questions and discussion by workshop attendees. All sessions will take place on Zoom, and the work to be discussed will be distributed on seminar webpage or by email to registrants.
