Equality, White Supremacy and Confederate Symbols

A faculty panel will discuss legal and historical issues relating to the events of Aug. 11 and 12. Topics include the First Amendment, the Second Amendment, policing and civil protest, and frameworks for considering Confederate symbols. The panelists are Kim Forde-Mazrui, Barbara Armacost, Leslie Kendrick and John Mason of the Department of History. Sponsored by UVA Law, the Center for the Study of Race and Law, the American Constitution Society, the Black Law Students Association, Common Law Grounds, the Jewish Law Students Association and the Minority Rights Coalition.
