Heaphy ’91 Sworn In as U.S. Attorney
Tim Heaphy ‘91 was sworn in as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia on Friday at the Law School.
Heaphy was introduced by his father-in-law, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Gen. Eric K. Shinseki, and by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.
“This is a great day for the Western District of Virginia and for the Department of Justice,” Holder said to a packed Caplin Pavilion.
Heaphy spent 12 years as an assistant U.S. attorney in both the Western District of Virginia and Washington, D.C., and was a partner at the law firm McGuireWoods prior to his current appointment.
After taking the oath of office administered by Chief Judge James P. Jones of the Western District of Virginia, Heaphy thanked his family, friends and coworkers, as well as the University of Virginia.
“I was here as a law student and as an undergraduate students and this place has had a profound impact on me,” said Heaphy, who is also a former lecturer at the Law School.
