Stefan Underhill is a U.S. District Judge for the District of Connecticut, resident in Bridgeport. He was appointed by President Bill Clinton on July 7, 1999, and entered duty Sept. 1, 1999. Underhill graduated from the University of Virginia in 1978 with a B.A. in interdisciplinary studies and received a second B.A. in philosophy, politics and economics from the University of Oxford in 1981, which he attended on a Rhodes Scholarship. He received his J.D. from Yale University School of Law in 1984.

Following graduation, he served as a law clerk to Judge Jon O. Newman of the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals. Underhill was an associate and later a partner in the Stamford office of Day, Berry & Howard LLP (now Day Pitney LLP) where he concentrated in commercial litigation and appeals.
